FOOD SAFETY POLICY

1.         POLICY STATEMENT 

1.1      Purpose

Lwani Foods is committed to:

·     The enhancement of customer satisfaction

·     Involvement of people

·     Maintenance of the food safety program

·     Mutual Beneficial Relationships

·     The scope of our Food Safety Management System applies to all products received, processed, stored and distributed at Lwani Foods for the local and international market.

1.2      Customer Focus

  • Customers are our lifeblood. Meeting and exceeding their needs constitute our primary objective.

  • Satisfying our customers with products that consistently conform to agreed specifications.

  • Ensuring that we understand current and future customer needs.

1.3      Involvement of Our People

  • We will involve all people, enabling ownership, accountability, and responsibility. We will continually develop our staff as we recognize their value in our business.

  • Ensuring that full involvement of all staff in the success of the organisation is achieved.

  • Ensuring people’s knowledge and skills are developed to meet their own, and the organisation’s goals.

  • Ensuring all members of staff understand their responsibilities for quality.

1.4      Maintenance of the Food Safety Program

·     Ensuring that all key processes, and associated resources, are effectively managed and maintained.

·     Operating a Quality Management System in line with the regulatory requirements, GFSI Basic, HACCP and South African regulations.

1.5      Mutually Beneficial Supplier Relationships

·     Our suppliers constitute a critical element in our ability to satisfy market needs and our approach is one of mutually beneficial development and partnering.

·     Ensuring that mutually beneficial relationships are developed.

·     Agreed goals achieved.

In support of these processes, we will ensure that the necessary training, human, and monetary resources are available to consistently deliver safe and good quality products, which comply with local food safety legislation and meet customer specifications and expectations.  

This policy will be displayed for all staff to see.

The food safety policy shall be reviewed at least annually for continued suitability, relevance, and effectiveness in the food safety management review meeting.  

It is communicated through training and is displayed in strategic places throughout the whole facility.

·     Foodstuffs, Cosmetics and Disinfectants Act (Act 54 of 1972).

·     SANS 10049:2019 Food Safety Management - Requirements for PRP.

·     SANS 241-1:2015

·     Regulation governing Microbiological Standards for Foodstuffs and related matter – R547 of 2008

·     Recommended International Code of Practice General Principles of Food Hygiene CAC/RCP 1-1969, 

·     Regulation R588 relating to heavy metals in food and food products.

In support of these processes, we will ensure that the necessary training, human and monetary resources are available to consistently store and distribute safe and quality products, which comply with local Food Safety legislation and meet customer specifications and expectations. 

Food Safety Objectives are as per Food Safety and Quality Objectives document: FSSC227

1.6      Quality Policy

Our Quality Policy is to ensure that all products processed and packed at our facilities comply with ISO 22000: 2018 Standard, ISO/TS22002-1 

For Food Manufacturing, FSSC 22000 Additional requirements as well as South African Food Safety and Quality Legislation and Guidelines. 

The Internal Auditing of the Quality management system is to be performed once, every three (3) months by the relevant responsible staff. Lwani Foods is fully committed to ensuring the products it processes and manufacturers ascribe to the quality requirements as set out by the relevant rules, regulations, guidelines and customer requirements.

 

 

1.7      Management Commitment

As Top Management, we are committed to ensuring there is a positive food safety culture within the organisation. 

We commit to providing adequate resources to ensuring the success of the food safety management system. 

We shall ensure that at all times, the food safety policies, procedures and other relevant requirements are taken into account whenever business decisions are being made.
